WELLWORKS REVIVE Turmeric

HIGH STRENGTH

Turmeric is widely used in traditional herbal medicine. Curcumin in turmeric is a strong antioxidant and helps support cardiovascular functions, joint health and digestion. Pepper blend is added to help increase absorption of nutrients in Turmeric.

Turmeric Benefits

Turmeric has been used in India for thousands of years as a spice and medicinal herb. It  contain compounds with medicinal properties called curcuminoids, the most important of which is curcumin (1). Turmeric in its natural form, contains only around 3% curcumin by weight (2). It is hard to consume sufficient turmeric spice in a diet to gain the benefits of turmeric. Consuming black pepper which contains piperine enhances the absorption of curcumin by up to 2,000% (3). Taking turmeric with a fatty meal or supplements such as hemp seed oil or fish oil can also help since curcumin is fat soluble.

Natural Anti-Inflammatory

Chronic inflammation plays a major role in diseases such as heart disease, cancer, metabolic syndrome, Alzheimer's and various degenerative conditions (1, 2, 3). Curcumin is a strong natural anti-inflammatory compound and a potent antioxidant that matches the effectiveness of some anti-inflammatory drugs without the side effects (4, 5, 6). It works on a molecular level, blocking NF-kB molecule that turns on genes related to inflammation (7, 8, 9).

Joints

Arthritis is a common disorder in Western countries that primarily involves inflammation in the joints. Given that curcumin is a potent anti-inflammatory compound, it would make sense that curcumin may help with arthritis. Studies have shown that in rheumatoid arthritis, curcumin was more effective than an anti-inflammatory drug (1) and shown improvements in various arthritis symptoms (2, 3).

 Cardiovascular

Heart disease is  the number one cause of death in the world (1). A major cause of heart disease is endothelial dysfunction. Endothelium is the lining of the blood vessels that regulates blood pressure, blood clotting, among other factors (2). When it comes to heart disease curcumin improves the function of the endothelium and may help reverse many steps in the heart disease process (3). Studies have suggested that taking curcumin is as effective as exercise, and works as well as the drug Atorvastatin in endothelial function (4, 5). A coronary artery bypass surgery study found that the group taking 4 grams of curcumin per day, a few days before and after surgery had a 65% decreased risk of experiencing a heart attack in the hospital compared to the placebo group (5). Curcumin also reduces inflammation and oxidation, that play a major role in heart disease.

 Digestion

Turmeric plays an important role in digesting food thanks to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It is used in ayurvedic medicine to aid digestion for thousands of years in India. This is supported by modern studies, showing that it can help reduce gut spasms and flatulence (1).
